SpiceWorld : The World Tour
Birmingham, England 2 May 1998
What can I say about a show that I waited over a year to see.
The show was excellent and the set was great although views from the side where I was were a bit limited because of scaffolding and musicians. It was a totally different set to Istanbul, shorter in length with steps instead of a slope and no ramp into the audience. A video screen was directly behind the Girls and from where I was sitting I couldn't see this too well but it either repeated the video pictures of the Girls singing or it showed videos to the songs, ie the desert scenes for Say You'll be There and the New York scenes for 2 become 1. There was a video screen on either side of the stage which features on a lot of my photos with Signing Spice in the bottom right corner.
The Girls moved down to the front but the only really good view was directly in front. It was a bit limited from the sides but the Girls did move around a bit and therefore Emma wasn't always on the other side, she came to my side as well and this is when we think she saw my poster (which said in big letters EMMA LOVE U) and then later waved at me, not the big wave she had been giving to the audience, but she looked directly at me and waved her fingers. Really made my night.
They sang:
If You can't Dance
Who Do You Think You Are
Do it
Denying
Too Much
Stop
Baby, Where did our love go? (Emma on her own dedicated to all the Babies in the audience. It seemed that if a girl had long hair she wore pigtails and therefore there appeared to be hundreds of Babies)
Move Over
(Then there was a 30 minutes interval)
The Lady is a Vamp
Say You'll be There
Naked
2 Become 1
Walk of life
Sisters (real raunchy version by the 2 Mels on the own)
Wannabe (as a sing-a-long, the Girls took a different part of the audience and we all had to sing our bit)
Spice Up Your life
Mama
The Girls then left the stage and so did the band and we thought it was over but then it all started again with
Viva Forever
Never Give Up on The Good Times
We Are Family.
At the start they had William Shatner (Star trek) doing his Spice, The final frontier, 5 Girls going where no woman has gone before, then video of a huge space ship like Star Wars or ID4, then a smaller one landing with the Girls in (pretend). At the end a voice said the space ship was leaving and after they left the stage the video showed the space ship taking off.
The programme was £6 but is full of great pictures.
